Smoking Ban In Vehicles

blog
From 1 October 2015 it will be illegal to smoke in a car (or other vehicles) with anyone under 18 present. The law is changing to protect children and young people from the dangers of second hand smoke. Both the driver and the smoker could be fined £50. The law applies to every driver in England and Wales, including those aged 17 and those with a provisional driving licence. The law does not apply if the driver is 17 years old and is on their own in the car. Every time a child breathes in second hand smoke, they breathe in thousands of chemicals. This puts them at risk of serious conditions including meningitis, cancer, bronchitis and pneumonia. It can also make asthma worse.

Road Signs In Summer

blog
Well summer is still with us and greenery is out and blooming, Everybody is having fun it seems except those in cars  because plants, trees and bushes, all are growing like crazy. You see, this causes a problem with road signs. The local authorities are not able to keep on top of the growth and some signs have not been washed for so long and as a result have acquired a build up of debris which in the worst cases, renders them illegible. Being green shade, it also serves to camouflage them to make them unreadable in a moving vehicle. The hedges and trees in many areas have not been cut back for some time, probably a couple of years and are now starting to partially or completely obscure the signs. This is becoming dangerous. Road safety requires this to…

New Driving Test Trials

blog
I have been asked from students what the new driving test could be like and the differences there will be if its to be introduced after the trials. So here is an overview of the differences in the table below: At the current moment there is no plans to trial the new driving test at either Irvine or Ayr test centres. The DVSA have been trialling the new test since Spring 2015 and are looking for 2-3,000 learner drivers to take part in the one-year trial. The DVSA will compare the results of learners taking the current test and trial test, taking into account the impact it has on the safe driving standards of learners who pass the new test compared to the old version.  No results have been made available for comparison yet.…

Fronting On Insurance Cover For New Drivers

blog
Car insurance can be a costly business after doing all your lessons to pass your test, but the reason for that is young drivers are statistically a bad risk when starting out driving. However, your parents – as an older, more experienced driver – are statistically a much lower risk, which is why their insurance costs are much lower. Families with newly qualified drivers have embraced this in attempting to reduce insurance costs for their children by fronting for their children's first policy. This is when a young driver is put onto a parent’s insurance policy as a named driver, when they’re actually very much the main driver of the policy. In most cases, the parent never even gets behind the wheel of their son or daughter’s car. Doing this might save you some…
